Preferences Settings for Photographers Using Lightroom

Preferences Settings for Photographers Using Lightroom

The following are what I think are the best Preferences Settings for Lightroom.

This will help Lightroom run well and play nice with other RAW readers (Bridge, PS, etc.)

Please leave comments with questions you may have about my choices.

  1. Hi Lester. Thanks you for your information

Everywhere I read there has been advice to tick ” store pre-sets with catalogue” . in order for your pre-sets not to go missing.

Is there a reason why you have not ticked this box?

  2. That is a great question. At the time I created the catalogs that I was using I needed different presets on different machines. That is a bit of a special use. That should be in the recommendations for most users. Glad you like the information. I will be posting how to run Lightroom on a network soon. Stay tuned.

  3. lightroom is running slowly- what can i do to make it faster?

  4. The biggest reason for lightroom running slow is one of two reasons.

    1. The catalog needs optimized. Do a relaunch and optimize. (Lightroom 3 does this on the backup when you close it.)
    2. You are not asking it to create previews as 1:1. That will slow it down when you zoom in or go to the develop module.

Lightroom 3 goes a LONG way toward fixing performance issues.
