Lightroom 2.2 – what really matters?

Lightroom 2.2 – what really matters?

What really matters to the day to day user when it comes to the new Lightroom? But before we get to that, here is the official release notes from Adobe (full article).

Camera support for the following models:

  • Canon EOS 5D Mark II
  • Canon PowerShot G10
  • Panasonic DMC-G1
  • Panasonic DMC-FX150
  • Panasonic DMC-FZ28
  • Panasonic DMC-LX3
  • Leica D-LUX 4
OK.  Don’t have any of those….so no bonuses for me.
Even the bugs fixed list was a bit thin in effect for me, except the following ones:
  • Turning auto-mask on produced a lag in Lightroom performance in when applying the adjustment brush
I had just assumed that there was supposed to be a huge lag when you did this :-)  Nice fix.
  • Lightroom could become unresponsive when using the graduated filter under certain conditions.
I had it become unresponsive in a variety of conditions, but this one was likely only one scenario. I am going to pay attention next time it goes unresponsive.  It might be the program and not my computer.

The Big Kahuna

The greatest add onto the program is in the camera profiles. The addition of this allows us to make finer and finer tweaks to how Lightroom handles our RAW files.  You can make and save your own profiles or use the ones provided.
To find them go to the develop module and all the way down on the bottom of the right hand side is the new tool.
Enjoy.

Loading Presets in Lightroom

Loading Presets in Lightroom

Sometimes people as about presets in Lightroom.

Presets are the “actions” of the Lightroom world.  They don’t work exactly like actions, but they are very close.  As you get to know and love presets, you will want more.   One way is to create them and another way is to buy them.

If you buy presets, inevitably the question is “how do I load them?”  This quick video tutorial will show you how to load your presets that you have downloaded.  It is also handy if you have lightroom installed on more than one computer.
